The Bahia Nautical Rally arrives at its improved 9th edition presenting innovations and bringing more challenges to all competitors. With this in mind, Bahia Marina and Yacht Club da Bahia bring boat and watercraft riders together in another edition of the Rally that takes place this Saturday (02/12). Among the changes of the event, the initiative of the organizers is to insert a tourist profile to the competition with the integration of Bimbarras Island to the route. The change of course puts Bahia Marina as the start of the race; for the first time, the pit stop will be on the paradise island of Bimbarras and finally competitors will return for a trophy ceremony at the Bahia Yacht Club. The Nautical Rally integrates the Nautical Festival, launched by the City of Salvador, through the Empresa de Turismo de Salvador (Saltur – Salvador Tourism Agency).
According to Leilane Loureiro, director of Bahia Marina and director of the Nautical Rally of Bahia, the new course developed by coach David Perrone has a longer distance, allowing more challenges to competitors, with average race duration of four hours.
“The competition will cover more straight stretches and a highest average speed. Knowledge of location gear, in addition to concentration and skill, will be essentials to win the race,” she explains. The winners of the event are those who get the lowest number of points lost.
Characterized as a leisure and sport activity, the Nautical Rally is not a speed race but one of nautical consistency, combining time and location in an exact manner: in all boats and jets will be installed GPS devices, called data loggers, which will monitor the data of all participants. The modality is divided into four categories: General, Bahia, Adventure and Jet Ski.
Champion’s baggage
With the weight of the unprecedented title for Brazil, won this year in the largest off-road competition on the planet, the Dakar Rally, champion Lourival Roldan brings all his experience in automobile and nautical rallies to Bahia and takes over the technical commission of the race.
“The expectation is that the Bahian competitors will make every effort to make a beautiful competition. Just like a ground race, the sailing rally becomes interesting when the competitors defy themselves, know the equipment that they have in hand and face the test with responsibility and joy,” says Roldan.
Boats of 18 feet or more and Jet Ski RunAbout (Seated), duly regular with the TIE and CRE, issued by the Navy, will be allowed to participate in the race.
Interested parties will be able to register by Friday, December 1st, at the Bahia Marina’s or at the Yacht Club’s administration offices. The registration fee is R$ 400,00 for the boats in the categories General, Bahia and Aventura and R$ 160,00 for Jet Ski.
